A 36-year-old Houma man is in the custody of the Houma Police Department after he allegedly tried to run over his girlfriend, then beat her.

On Aug. 11, at approximately 1 p.m., HPD was called to the 100 block of New Orleans Boulevard in reference to a domestic disturbance.

As officers were arriving, they observed Quincy Melendez, 36, on top of a 37-year-old victim, hitting her multiple times. The victim, authorities later learned, is Melendez’s girlfriend.

As officers approached the suspect, he fled into a residential area.

Officers pursued him for several blocks, then located him again. They used a Taser to take him into custody without further incident.

After investigation, authorities learned that Melendez tried to strike the victim with his vehicle first. He pursued her on foot and attempted to drag her back to his truck, but she was able to slip out of his grip, during which Melendez took the victim to the ground and hit her multiple times.

The suspect is charged with attempted simple kidnapping, attempted aggravated battery, domestic abuse battery and resisting arrest.
