A 21-year-old Houma man is charged after shots were fired in Village East.

On Monday at about 4:20 p.m., Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies were called to Thomas Drive in the neighborhood in reference to reports of shots having been fired.

Deputies were told by witnesses that one of the people involved left the scene in white Volkswagen Beetle.

A Louisiana State Police Trooper saw a vehicle matching that description shortly after and at La. Highway 182 near Hollywood Road, contact was made with the driver.

A handgun was observed in plain view hanging from an area under the driver’s seat.

The driver, Alex Robinson, 21, of Louise St., was taken into custody.

Authorities discovered that Robinson is a convicted felon who is not allowed to have a handgun.

He is charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon (felony), and illegal use and discharge of a weapon.

An investigation is ongoing into the incident at Thomas Drive.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office at 8786-2500 or Bayou Region Crime Stoppers, 1-800-743-7433.

Information resulting in arrests could make the caller eligible for a cash reward.
