A 36-year-old Houma man was killed in a one-car traffic accident on Sunday afternoon.

Authorities say the man was evading authorities at the time of the accident.

Terrebonne Sheriff Jerry Larpenter said that this afternoon on Sept. 1 at about 6:13 p.m., deputies responded to an apartment on Charlotte Street in Gray in reference to a domestic dispute.

The responding deputy received information from a female who advised authorities that her boyfriend had struck her and then left the scene, allegedly threatening to come back with a gun.

Based on this information, deputies began patrolling in search of the suspect vehicle, which was silver in color – a 2016 Chevy Malibu.

Shortly after, the suspect’s vehicle was seen traveling toward Hollywood Road on MLK Boulevard.

The deputy attempted to stop the vehicle, using his emergency lights, but the suspect refused to stop, continuing on Tunnel, passing through several red lights in the process.

Louisiana State Police and Houma Police were notified and they started in to help authorities get the vehicle stopped.

After passing through the Houma Intracoastal Tunnel, the suspect struck the curb and also a utility pole and overturned near 1400 East Tunnel Boulevard.

The suspect was removed from the overturned vehicle and medical assistance was provided, but authorities say he died at the scene of the crash.

The man was identified as Michael Brown, 36, of Houma.

The Terrebonne Parish Coroner’s Office was notified and responded to the scene. This case remains under investigation at this time.
