Teens arrested for distribution of marijuana following traffic stop

Three suspects – including a juvenile – were arrested by the Thibodaux Police Department after a traffic stop yielded a drug arrest.


On Nov. 16, just before 10:30 a.m., Thibodaux Police Officers stopped a white Chevy Cruze for failing to signal. The vehicle was stopped in the 1200 block of General Nicholls Street.

During the course of the stop, officers smelled an odor of marijuana emitting from the vehicle.

Cullen Butler, 18, of Houma, Jalen West, 18, of Thibodaux, and a 17-year-old juvenile were inside the vehicle. All three were detained while officers did a vehicle search.


The search rendered approximately 121.5 grams of suspected marijuana in the vehicle and $1,000 in U.S. currency on the juvenile’s person.

All three were arrested and charged.

The juvenile with with Possession with Intent to Distribute Marijuana – Schedule I (Felony) & Transactions Involving Proceeds from CDS Activity (Felony). The juvenile was charged and released to his guardian.


Butler with Possession with Intent to Distribute Marijuana – Schedule I (Felony) & Turning Movements and Required Signals. Mr. Butler later posted a $10,100.00 bond and was released from the Lafourche Parish Correctional Complex.

West with Possession with Intent to Distribute Marijuana – Schedule I (Felony). Mr. West later posted a $10,000.00 bond and was released from the Lafourche Parish Correctional Complex.
