On Jan. 9, 2020 at approximately 2:10 a.m., deputies responded to an armed robbery on the 600 block of Linda Anne Street in Gray.

Upon responding, it was discovered that earlier in the morning, masked suspects armed with AR-15 rifles and pistols forced entry, tied up the occupants and ransacked the residence.

Shortly thereafter, a uniformed patrol supervisor observed a vehicle fitting a description given in the parking lot of The Landings apartments in Houma, where a suspect was believed to be residing, and observed weapons, explosives and other items through the vehicle window.

An attempt was made to contact the suspect at an apartment. At this point, TPSO SWAT was activated; Louisiana State Police assisted as well. Deputies learned that an individual had made entry to one apartment through the attic of another apartment and conducted a search. Occupants of several apartments were evacuated as a precaution.

Arrests were made of three individuals, LeRoyce James Cormier, 20 and Labaron Lee, 26, both of Gray, and Emile J.C. Thomas, 32, of New Orleans for armed robbery with a firearm and for unauthorized entry of an inhabited dwelling.

This case is still under investigation and other charges may be pending.

Sheriff Jerry Larpenter said patrol deputies and detectives, SWAT members, dispatchers and other personnel worked closely as a team to bring the matter to a safe halt with no injuries using precision and professionalism.

“Their joint efforts solved a serious crime, kept innocent people safe and took dangerous criminals as well as some deadly weapons off the streets in a matter of hours,” Sheriff Larpenter said. “I am very proud of all they have done. I also wish to thank the Louisiana State Police for their prompt response and assistance.”
