The Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office announced today that locals will be able to get information about crime incidents that occurred in Terrebonne Parish thanks to a new public crime tracking tool.

TPSO announced that they’ve begun linking local crime data to CrimeMapping.com. With that tool, users will be able to put in any address they choose in Terrebonne and crime information for that area will be provided.

To access the mapping system, visit www.tpso.net.

TPSO Chief Criminal Deputy Terry Daigre said the information is being made available as TPSO enhances its desire for greater public transparency.

The developers of crimemapping.com are TriTech Software. They’ve also created an alert system, which will allow locals to receive custom notification of reported crimes.

The service is free and it also links to a mobile app designed for iPhones.

“This site uses an advanced mapping engine to extract data directly from our records management system,” Col. Daigre said. “The system does this on a regular basis, ensuring that the most current information is available. This is an excellent way for neighbors to know more about what’s happening in their neighborhoods, and to spot trends.”

To use CrimeMapping, TPSO has created a 4-step how-to:

1. Go to www.tpso.net

2. Click on the words that spell out “click here.”

3. A map of the latest Terrebonne Parish stats will come up for you. Use various navigation features on that page to locate incidents, input a date range and perform other functions.

4. An iOS app version can be downloaded from the Apple App Store or here: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/crimemapping/id452856454?mt=8
