On November 16, 2021, TPSO deputies, School Resource Officers (SRO), were monitoring the hallways during a recess break at H.L. Bourgeois High School, #1 Reservation Ct. 1 Gray, La. when a large fight among students took place which resulted in multiple students being arrested.

During this break, there were several hundred students in the hallways of the school who were in the process of exchanging classes when the fights started. There were multiple students fighting one another at the same time as the SRO deputies, teachers and administration attempted to stop them. There were also patrol deputies who responded to the school in order to assist with bringing this situation under control.  After several minutes all students who were involved in the fights were separated and detained without any serious injuries.

After further investigation there were a total of twelve students identified as being involved in the fights. All twelve students, ages 14-17, were arrested for Rioting and transported to the Terrebonne Parish Juvenile Detention Center where they were booked and jailed.

Sheriff Soignet says that Terrebonne Parish schools are a place for our children to be safe and get an education. This type of violence will not be tolerated in our schools and there will consequences for their actions. This case remains under investigation and more arrests may follow.
