Assumption Parish Sheriff Leland Falcon reports the arrests of Sterling Smith, Jr. of 107 Jude Drive, Thibodaux, LA and Joshua Watkins, 34, of 1210A Winder Road, Thibodaux, LA, on charges arising from a traffic stop near Labadieville, LA on Thursday evening.
An I.C.E. assigned deputy observed a vehicle commit a traffic violation and initiated a stop. The deputy made contact with the driver, now identified as Sterling Smith, Jr. The deputy noted Smith to appear extremely nervous. The deputy observed an individual lying across the rear seat. That subject was identified as Joshua Watkins. The deputy detained both subjects.
Following an interview of each subject, the deputy obtained consent to search the violator’s vehicle. As a result of the search, a quantity of suspected marijuana was located and attributed to Joshua Watkins.
The deputy conducted a pat-down search of both suspects and at the time, a quantity of synthetic marijuana and several doses of Hydrocodone (Lortab) was seized from Sterling Smith, Jr.
Both Sterling Smith, Jr. and Joshua Watkins were arrested and transported to the Assumption Parish Detention Center on charges of:
As to Sterling Smith, Jr.:
*Possession of Hydrocodone (Lortab)
*Possession of Cannabinoids (Synthetic Marijuana)
*Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
*Improper Equipment (Mirrors)
*No Seat Belt
*Possession of Marijuana – Second Offense
Sterling Smith, Jr. remains incarcerated pending a bond hearing.
As to Joshua Watkins:
*Possession of Marijuana – 2nd Offense
Joshua Watkins was released on bond.
