The Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Office said today an 82-year-old man found unresponsive yesterday in Mathews has died.
Foul play is not suspected in his death, according to detectives.
Just after 10:30 a.m. on September 24, a concerned citizen called 911 in reference to an unresponsive elderly man, who was later identified as Huey Hunter, 82.
He was lying on the side of the road in the 100 block of Johnny Durene Drive in Mathews.
A deputy arrived and found a concerned citizen administering CPR to Hunter.
The deputy then took over administering CPR until EMTs arrived.
EMTs established a pulse and rushed Hunter to a local hospital. He was then airlifted to University Medical Center in New Orleans where he later died.
Detectives performed an autopsy on Sept. 25, and the final determination is pending.
But detectives said they believe a medical issue is what caused Hunter to collapse.
He did not suffer any injuries that would indicate that he was struck by a vehicle and there was no other evidence of foul play found on the scene.
