A 23-year-old Houma man was issued a summons for allegedly striking an officer in the back with a large bucket of water – an incident heavily shared on social media throughout the past several days.
On July 7 at approximately 8:52 p.m., HPD were called to the area of Norman Street for a complaint of loud noise.
Upon arrival, the responding officer observed that a splash party was taking place in the area – a party where people in attendance take part in various types of water fights with each other.
The officer attempted to make contact with the party host to see if there was a time the party was supposed to end.
As he was trying to find the host, a group of attendees started hollering profanities and throwing water on the cop.
As the officer started to walk out of the crowd, he was also struck in the back with a large bucket of water.
The responding officer then called for assistance, which caused the crowd to disperse.
On July 8, HPD learned of the video, which had been posted on social media and had generated thousands of likes and shares.
After further investigation, the person throwing the bucket was identified as Jonathan Dion, 23, of Houma.
Dion was located without incident and taken to HPD headquarters where he was interviewed.
In the interview, Dion allegedly admitted to throwing the water and said he was sorry for his actions.
At the conclusion of the interview, Dion was issued a misdemeanor summons for battery of a police officer.
