Louisiana Marathon Weekend in Baton Rouge

Jan. 17-19

Runners rendezvous again in the state’s capitol for the annual Louisiana Marathon, a three-day event begun in 2012 that features an assortment of ancillary races and events.

Drew Haro and Rosalie Teeuwan won the men’s and women’s marathons last year, respectively.

Although the big race carries the most cache, multiple running events are offered throughout the weekend, targeted at various age groups and skill sets.

The weekend kicks off Friday, Jan. 17 with an exposition at the Baton Rouge River Center.

Featured are vendors displaying the latest trends and designs in running apparel.

Saturday, running from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., includes The Advocate 5K and Kids Marathon (each starting from The Capitol Park Museum).

A Family Festival at AZ Young Park and three guest speakers and a pastalaya dinner with Matt Long and Bill Rodgers follow at the Baton Rouge River Center.

The main race commences with a pre-start at 6:50 a.m., Sunday as the marathon and half-marathon are simultaneous waged.

A festival is held at the finish line and includes live music by Big Sam’s Funky Nation, the Bucktown Allstars and more. Friends, family and the non-running curious are invited to line the 26.2-mile road course to take in the athletes.

Registration ranges from $20 for children to $120 for the full marathon through Jan. 16. For more information, visit www.thelouisianamarathon.com.

Dunham’s ‘Disorderly Conduct Tour’ hits NOLA

Jan. 20

Noted comedian and ventriloquist Jeff Dunham and his sometimes-lovable company arrive Jan. 20 at the New Orleans Arena with his “The Disorderly Conduct Tour.”

Fans will hear from Dunham’s famed troup: Walter the Grumpy Retiree, Achmed the Dead Terrorist, the beer-fueled redneck Bubba J, the manic purple guy Peanut, the spicy pepper from south of the border Jose Jalapeño, and Peanut’s own ventriloquist dummy Little Jeff, a mini-version of the star himself.

Fans can expect more of the mayhem they’ve enjoyed with Dunham and crew on Comedy Central specials.

The fun kicks off with a video of our favorite curmudgeon Walter, potty-mouthed bad-boy Peanut, car-loving hick Bubba J and simultaneously threatening and insecure Achmed being interrogated “Law and Order” style. After that, expect more “Disorderly Conduct” from the rowdy bunch sitting on the puppet master’s lap.

The show starts at 7:30 p.m., and tickets are $42.50. For more information, visit www.jeffdunham.com.

The world’s so-called largest mobile aquarium – 5,000 gallons – is again a platform for freshwater lure demonstration, and the indoor Fish-O-Rama provides attendees a chance to catch live fish from an oversized pool brimming with the aquatic creatures

Plus, a 1923 Model T Dream Camper, with its own outhouse in tow, is exhibited.
