LECTURE ON HISTORY OF THE DONALDSONVILLE CANONNIERS –

Michael Marshall presents a program on his book “Gallant Creoles, A History of the Donaldsonville Canonniers.” Composed of Creole Cajun citizen-soldiers, the canonniers were one of the most active Louisiana units during the U.S. Civil War and were a component of Gen. Robert E. Lee’s Army of Northern Virginia. The unit reorganized in 1875, also participating in the Spanish-American War. Marshall is a retired New Orleans Police Department detective and sergeant, a former Marine and a former world history high-school teacher. Refreshments are served and copies of the book are sold.

DOWN THE DIRT ROAD BLUES: SPENCER BOHREN –

Spencer Bohren connects America’s musical roots in the concert, which he has taken across the United States. He focuses on the song “Down the Dirt Road Blues,” from its arrival in the hull of a slave ship through the birth of rock ‘n’ roll, stopping at other eras like integration and the Great Migration along the way. In conjunction with the south Lafourche Hurricane Festival, the beauty pageant is held on Saturday and the king and queen baby pageant is held on Sunday.
