The Tri-Parish Times posed this question to a group of visiting newspaper and magazine writers in town for Mardi Gras. Here’s what they told us.

“I wanted to come to Houma to witness a family-oriented Mardi Gras because the New Orleans parades have a reputation that’s not becoming of the state.”

– Angela Gary, Georgia

“I find the nature and the female leadership of the Houma Indians very interesting. I also enjoy the friendliness of the area because in Seattle people are not that friendly.”

– Sarah Wyatt, Washington

“Houma culture is something that everyone should experience in their lifetime because it’s so much better than New Orleans. It’s good to see the community rally behind its city.”

– Don Woodland, Massachusetts

“Houma is a good place for men to come and fish, hunt and do other manly things. They can also come to Houma and bring their families.”

-Sheri Wallace, Arizona

“I love to travel for pleasure and now I get to travel for work, this my third time coming to Houma. I enjoy the culture and the food. I have a general interest in Houma and area attractions.”

– Doug English, Canada
