It’s you’re starving for Carnival Season, whet your appetite with the Krewe of Mardi Gras 16th Annual Chili Cook-Off Jan. 10.

The yearly event features an all-day supply of food and fun as dozens of teams compete to see who’s got the best chili.

Gates open at 9 a.m. and close at 10 p.m. at the Houma Airbase, located at 221 Moffet Road in Houma

As many as 70 teams have signed up in the past, and this year’s edition is the biggest one yet – featuring two bands. Ross Grisham will play from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and Category 6 will play from 6:30 to p.m.

Sandwiching the tunes will be judging and  live auction beginning at 2 p.m. Items in the auction will be Mardi Gras wreaths, pictures, clocks, fleur-de-lis items and much more plus an ice chest of Crown Royal and a 50-50 cash raffle.

Admission is $10 at the gate, but space is still available to sign up your team for those chili chefs out there. There is a $50 entre fee for cooks, but the best chefs will take home huge cash prizes.

First place wins $1,000, followed by $500 for second, $300 for third and $200 for fourth.

Anyone interested in participating, looking for more information or looking for cook-off rules is asked to call Marlene Jewell at (985) 804-4203.
