There were no female krewes in Houma prior to 1951. That is when several Houma ladies met to explore the idea of organizing a local carnival club. The group’s first meeting was held at the Mayfair Club on Houma’s Main Street. Approximately 65 ladies showed up. The purpose of the newly formed ladies’ carnival club was to have as much fun as the guys, promote the carnival spirit and afford the opportunity for any female member, whether married or single, to be queen.

In 1952, the first Krewe of Hyacinthians parade rolled. The parade was moved to a Sunday afternoon in 1954, when the ban on Sunday parading was lifted. In 1956, the krewe purchased its own floats.
