As you carefully bring your arm back your finger sets on the open face. You forcefully thrust your arm forward as your finger lifts. The sound of a spinning reel fills the air until you hear the faint “plop” of the bait hitting the water. You’re now ready to fish.

But, have you chosen the right fishing spot?

Lafourche Parish tourism officials want to assure you have.

The many bayous and waterways in and around Lafourche Parish offer an abundance of productive – yet secret – sport fishing locations, and the Tourist Commission highlights 23 local businesses ready to give up those secrets.

Licensed charter fishing boat operators are plentiful in Lafourche, and they offer the highest quality fishing experience.

“We specialize in bringing a fun day of fishing to everyone from the beginner to the most experienced angler,” says Captain Larry and Troy Robichaux, promoting their Larose-based business, Saltwater Guide Service.

Most operators offer customers an all-inclusive experience – with boat, fuel, bait, ice and tackle, as well as fish cleaning and packaging.

However, others offer guide services in the customer’s own boat or a choice between the guide services only and the complete package.

For a more adventurous experience, visitors can choose one of the many deep-sea fishing charters available from Port Fourchon.

“While out on our charters you’ll have the opportunity to catch fish such as red snapper, cobia (lemon fish), tuna, amberjack, grouper and a variety of others,” Charlie Hardison & Sons Charters explains in its promotional materials. “It’s not just a fishing trip it’s an adventure.”
