MARDI GRAS SOCIAL 2013

Feb. 1


Former Gov. Edwin Edwards, the grand marshal for the Krewe of Hercules, receives a key to the city, and former New York Giants’ running back Brandon Jacobs is in attendance. Other events include Hercules’ indoor parade, crowning the Krewe of Ageless Dreams and a performance by Duet Brothers Band. Tickets are available for all Terrebonne Parish residents 60 and older and can be picked up at all Terrebonne Parish Council on Aging centers. ($3.50, includes lunch).

KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS FAIS DO-DO


Feb. 16


Join the Fourth-Degree Knights of Columbus in Dulac for French, country and Cajun music and dancing. James Jag and Friends performs. The smoke- and alcohol-free event includes a $5 meal of chicken stew. Door prizes are given and 50-50 tickets cost $1 each. $2 entry fee. Doors open at 4 p.m.

MILITARY ROUNDTABLE


Feb. 19 FREE

Dr. Charles Chamberlain leads the Houma Regional Military Museum’s monthly roundtable discussion. He lectures on the topic “The Cuban Missile Crisis. Coffee and conversation begin at 5 p.m.

TRIVIA NIGHT

The East St. Mary Parish Kiwanis Club hosts its first trivia night. Proceeds benefit the Adullam Household of Faith. The entry fee is $150 per team.

GOSPEL EXPLOSION


Feb. 23


The Franklin High School Athletic Booster Club hosts its second annual “Gospel Explosion.” Local churches and disco groups perform. ($10)

RODEO

Feb. 23

Bull riding, barrel racing and more are on tap at the Terrebonne Livestock Association’s second rodeo in its winter series. Admission is $10 for adults and $7 for children.

FEAR NO EVIL BULL RIDING CHALLENGE

Feb. 23

Forty riders compete for the championship. Comic barrel man Trent McFarland shows off tricks, a calf scramble for children is held during intermission and Velvet Sky performs a free post-show concert. Tickets are on sale at the civic center box office and www.ticketmaster.com. ($14-$23)

WILD GAME SUPPER

Feb. 28

Traditional south Louisiana fare is served with exotic meat – kangaroo, anyone? – at the Larose Civic Center’s 16th annual Wild Game Supper, held under the pavilion. There’s also a cash bar, live auction and, for the first time, a cracklin’ cook-off. Individual tickets cost $55; VIP tables, which include a bucket of beer, early admission and a personal server, cost $650.

EAGLE EXPO

Feb. 28 – March 2

Save Our American Raptors (SOAR) kicks off the expo with a presentation at 6 p.m. at the Patterson Civic Center. Boat tours extend into Bayou Black, the Atchafalaya Basin, Lake Verret, Turtle Bayou and Stephensville and are complemented by seminars, wildlife lectures and a photograph workshop. Full registration costs $150, but various packages are available.
