Krewe of Mardi Gras 16th Annual Chili Cookoff

Competitors vie for cash prizes ranging from $200 to $2,000 and bragging rights at this year’s cook-off. Cooking begins at 9 a.m.; judging and a live auction at 2 p.m. and music by Ross Grisham (10 a.m. to 2 p.m.) and Category 6 (6:30 to 10 p.m.). Auction items include an ice chest of Crown Royal and a half-and-half cash raffle. Admission is $10.

86th Annual Chamber Banquet

Richard Phillips, hostage survivor of the April 2009 Somali pirate attack of the Maersk Alabama, a container ship ferrying food and aid to East Africa, is the keynote speaker at this year’s installation of officers and awards banquet. The Houma-Terrebonne Chamber of Commerce will also name the Most Useful Citizen, Teenager of the Year and Outstanding Veteran award recipients.
