VICTORIAN CHRISTMAS AT JOSEPH JEFFERSON HOME –

Through Jan. 6


The Joseph Jefferson home and Rip Van Winkle Gardens are decorated for the holiday season. Tours cost $10 for adults and $8 for children and senior citizens. Tours begin on the hour starting at 9 a.m., and the last tour begins at 4 p.m. The home is open seven days a week.

SOUTHERN LOUISIANA BOAT, SPORT AND RV SHOW –


Jan. 4-6


The world’s largest mobile aquarium, the renowned fish-o-rama and the latest models of boats, RVs, jet skis, golf carts and all-terrain vehicles are presented at the 14th annual, three-day show. The show runs from 1-8 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. Friday night is family night. Admission is $7 for adults, $2 children 6-15 and free for children younger than 6.

TWELFTH NIGHT RENDEZVOUS –

Complimentary Hors d’oeuvres, a cash bar and a deejay’s tunes are part of the celebration to kick-off the Mardi Gras season. All local Mardi Gras crews are invited, and any members of the various krewes’ courts who are in attendance are recognized and partake in a toast. The celebration is open to the public.

A SILENT COMEDY TRIFECTA –

MILITARY ROUNDTABLE –

Henry Cook, who was a Green Beret for 30 years, leads the Houma Regional Military Museum’s monthly roundtable discussion. The featured topic this month is Special Forces. Cook, the recipient of two Purple Hearts, began his combat tours in Vietnam in 1967-68 and was recalled to active duty in 1990 to serve as deputy directory of special operations. Coffee and conversation begin at 5 p.m., and Cook’s lecture follows.

Join the Fourth-Degree Knights of Columbus in Dulac for French, country and Cajun music and dancing. Cajun Sunrise performs. The smoke- and alcohol-free event includes a $5 meal of red beans, rice, sausage, salad, bread, dessert and one drink. Door prizes are given and 50-50 tickets cost $1 each. $2 entry fee. The Cajun Rollergirls, the local roller-derby team, is recruiting new skaters. Enrollment in boot camp is open to both genders, as the team seeks competitors, referees and non-skating officials. The Krewe of Shaka kicks off Mardi Gras 2013 in the Tri-parish region with its 16-float parade through Thibodaux. The winding route begins at Iris Street and covers Canal Boulevard and Jackson, St. Charles and Fifth streets.

Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Ricky Nelson’s identical twin sons Matthew and Gunner pay homage to their late father with a multi-media concert including covers of his hit songs and video footage of the Nelson family. ($35)
