Uncle Elroy is coming to Thibodaux.

Don D.C. Curry, who played Craig’s sex-crazed, irascible and lottery-winning uncle in “Next Friday” and “Friday after Next,” headlines a roster of five comedians visiting the Warren Harang Auditorium for the adults-only Laugh Out Loud Comedy Show.

Although Curry is most known for his role 12 years ago, he is a decorated stand-up comedian and the perennial host of the Bay Area Black Comedy Competition, which he won in 1995 and received the Lifetime Achievement Award from in 2011.

Curry was also awarded BET Comedian of the Year honors in 1996, and the InSpired Artist Award in 2011.

He has appeared on “The Chris Rock Show,” HBO “Def Comedy Jam,” his own Comedy Central and BET specials and many other television programs, along with his regular role as a grumpy boss in ABC’s “Grace Under Fire,” his starring role as Wes in “Two Degrees” and various touring stage plays.

Michael Colyar, another comedian with a decorated background, joins Colyar on stage.

Colyar made a name for himself in Venice Beach, Calif., where he performed for nine years. He was regarded as “The King of Venice Beach,” and performed five one-hour shows per day every Saturday and Sunday.

Colyar won “Star Search,” a nationally televised talent competition in 1990 and promptly received attention for donating half of his $100,000 prize to charity.

He lent his voice to Buford in Disney’s “The Princess and the Frog” and played Morris the Barber in “Norbit,” Williams in “Hot Shots! Part Deux” and Mr. Whitaker in the sitcom “Martin.”

Colyar received an abundance of press in 2011 after making a racially-charged blog post on his website that accused United Airlines of throwing him off a plane in an act of discrimination.

“His informative and highly entertaining brand of comedy guarantees positive response,” Colyar’s biography reads. “As “The Original Host” of “BET Live From LA”, his point blank delivery and razor-sharp insight connected to the guest that joined him on the sofa, as well as over 55 million viewers coast to coast.”

Three other comedians grace the stage Saturday, June 23. Floor seats cost $45, lower bleacher tickets are $35 and the upper bleacher seats are $25.

Michael Colyer, who played Williams in the movie “Hot Shots! Part Deux,” joins Don D.C. Curry for a comedy show June 23 in Thibodaux.
