TOUR BAYOU LAFOURCHE


through Dec. 15

Cast off from Thibodaux and take a journey to one of two historic plantation homes adjacent to Bayou Lafourche. On the way, learn about the waterway’s storied history and evolving biology. On Fridays and Saturdays, the 20-passenger aluminum boat travels upstream to Madewood Plantation in Napoleonville; on Wednesdays, the boat docks at E.D. White Plantation Home, birthplace of U.S. Supreme Court Chief Justice Edward Douglass White. Madewood tickets cost $28.25, which includes lunch. E.D. White tours cost $5. Reservations are required.

DUCKS UNLIMITED BANQUET AND OUTDOOR SHOW

The annual event includes dinner, a live auction and exhibitors’ showings. Tickets, which cost $40 for singles, $60 for couples and $15 for youth, also include a one-year membership. Ducks Unlimited is celebrating its 75th anniversary.

SOUTHDOWN MARKETPLACE ARTS AND CRAFTS FESTIVAL

More than 300 vendors set up on Southdown Plantation’s grounds and sell handmade arts and crafts. The semi-annual event also features museum tours, music and a kids’ tent, co-sponsored by Kids in Motion Playhouse, with prices ranging from free to $3. Admission is $5.

GREAT CHILI CHALLENGE

Historians re-create scenarios depicting the lives of soldiers and citizens from the New Iberia community in 1862. The two-day encampment includes weapons demonstrations, skirmishes, music, prisoner interrogation and cannon talk.
