Houma artist Jeff Duke’s oil and pastel painting exhibit is on display through Nov. 30 at Southdown Plantation and Museum. Titled “Wanting to be Different,” the exhibit opens Oct. 2.

A United Methodist minister for 29 years, Duke’s religious paintings reflect his journey in faith. “It is a joy to see a painting come together that has my faith captured in oils or pastels,” he said.

Look for works featuring LSU’s Mike the Tiger and other sports works featuring the university, as well as paintings depicting his family and scenes from nature.

“For me, art is a need, a desire to be creative,” Duke said. “It is a part of me that is so deeply ingrained that life is better when I am working at the easel. To stop is unthinkable.”

Southdown Plantation is located at 1208 Museum Drive in Houma. Call (985) 851-0154 or visit www.southdownmuseum.org for more information.
