Terrebonne General Medical Center has strengthened its already strong breast health program.

The hospital announced this week that it has added another plastic surgeon, Dr. Jeffrey Rau, who exhibits the skills, knowledge and expertise in post treatment options.

The hospital said the full spectrum of comprehensive cancer care starts with early detective and TGMC’s Breat and Imaging Center offers the most advanced breast imaging technology, including 3D mammography and Automated Breast Ultrasound Screenings (ABUS), which can detect cancers that may be missed in traditional screenings.

With the addition of Dr. Rau, TGMC Cancer Center patients now have new, advanced surgical treatment options available and expanded post-treatment options include breast reconstruction services for breast cancer patients who underwent breast mastectomies.

“Many patients who suffer from breast cancer opt for breast reconstruction after a mastectomy,” Dr. Rau said. “The process is a two-part procedure and can help women feel their very best.”

Hospital President and CEO, Phyllis Peoples, said having Dr. Rau is a huge coup to TGMC.

“With the option of plastic surgery, breast cancer patients no longer have to travel far to receive compassionate and quality healthcare,” Peoples said. “We strongly advocate women to take care of their health. They can receive comprehensive and thorough breast exams at TGMC’s Breast and Imaging Center. If a cancer diagnosis is made, our Cancer Center is here to help them through their fight and new post-treatment options are here to help women who choose breast reconstruction.”
