Dear Editor,

The Blue Star Mothers of Louisiana #2 packed Christmas care projects for our soldiers over the weekend.

Enclosed are letters from Marine WPNS 1/3 U.S. and 1st Sgt. Dave Ewing, recipients of a Blue Star Mothers care package.

“Dear Blue Star Mothers of Louisiana #2,

“Thank you for your support. … We appreciate all that you are doing to support us here. We know that support for the war has changed, but what hasn’t changed is the commitment my Marines have to accomplishing the mission.

“The gifts were much appreciated – especially the coffee cups. Even as hot as it is, we still drink coffee and lots of it.

“Thank you again; it did feel like Christmas in July.

“You are all great Americans and people like yourselves make me proud to serve you.”

– From the men of WPNS 1/3 US

“Dear Blue Star Mothers of Louisiana #2,

“I would like to take the opportunity to thank you for the package that you sent me. Your kindness and generosity are greatly appreciated.

“We are part of an aviation unit that is stationed in the northern part of Iraq. We are based out of Fort Lewis, Wash., and have been in-country for about three months. I have about 90 soldiers in my troop. I shared all of the goodies with them and they would like to thank you as well.

“For many of us, this is our second deployment to Iraq but, overall, morale is very high. I attribute a lot of that to the proud Americans like you who are including all of us in their thoughts and prayers.

“Thanks again for your support.”

– 1st Sgt. Dave Ewing

We ask the community to remember our soldiers in their prayers. Because of the bravery of these fine men and women, we can live in a land that is free and can sleep peacefully at night. May God bless them and keep them in His loving care. And to the families of those with soldiers away from home this holiday season, our prayers are with you.

Suzie Johnston,
