Dear Editor,

I encourage all residents of Terrebonne Parish and all residents of oil and gas producing parishes to vote in favor of Amendment No. 2 on the Nov. 2nd ballot.

I want to be clear, voting for this amendment will not increase taxes. It will allow parish governments like Terrebonne to keep more of the revenues generated inside their parishes as a result of severance taxes paid by oil and gas companies.

Currently the state retains the vast majority of parish generated severance taxes. If Amendment No. 2 passes, this cap will be increased from $850,000 to $2,850,000 for Terrebonne Parish and other oil and gas producing parishes.

The choice is simple. Voting for Amendment No. 2 would increase revenues for Terrebonne Parish Government and other coastal parishes.

Michel Claudet,

Houma, La.
