This year approximately 4,000 Louisiana women will be diagnosed with breast cancer.ÜGiven this diagnosis, aÜrelatively low number of women are enrolled in the Sister Study from your state. ApproximatelyÜ238 Louisiana womenÜare enrolled in the Sister StudyÜandÜresearchers need moreÜwomen to come forward and volunteer forÜtheÜnon-invasive study to help find the causes of breast cancer.Ü

The Sister Study is seeking 50,000 women whose sisters had breast cancer to find the environmentalÜand genetic causes of breast cancer. Conducted by theÜNational Institute of Environmental Health Sciences, the Sister Study wants to know if breast cancer is caused byÜsomething women come in contact with at work, at home, in their communities or in the personal products they use.ÜMore women in LouisianaÜare needed to help play an important role in this research

Recruitment ends at the end of 2007, so time is of the essence. We believe this is crucial information for women in your state, so please find a press release below with more detailed information on the Sister Study. If you’d like to interview a researcher or a participant, please call (202) 842-3600, extension 233.
