I realize this is a late thank you for the very nice article in the June addition of Gumbo, but I do want you to know that I appreciate your spotlighting our ballroom community. We are so in hopes of providing a clean social alternative for the local adults and young folks.

There were a few things I would like to add. The Houma competitors who danced at the competition in Baton Rouge in June did very well. Although the average person doesn’t view dancing as a sport, it is certainly one that requires a lot of skill and stamina and is becoming increasingly popular around the country. It is our goal to make enough money with our New Year’s Eve Benefit dance at the civic center to launch high school level dance clubs and eventually host competitions among the area high schools.

If anyone is interested in helping our nonprofit organization move this forward, please let me know and I will be very happy to share my thoughts and ideas about getting the youth involved in this wholesome sport and social activity.

Thanks again for your generous article.
