The highest award obtainable from the Boy Scouts of America organization will be presented to a 15 year-old Thibodaux youth. Joshua Paul Blanchard will receive the Eagle Award in a Court of Honor presentation at the Lafourche Crossing 308 Volunteer Fire Department.
Joshua Blanchard, the son of Alice Blanchard and Dean Blachard, receives the award after earning 31 merit badges and completing his service project of constructing Teacher’s Mail Boxes and Bookshelves for the Bayou Community Acadamey School.
The Thibodaux High School sophomore advanced through all ranks of Scouting as a member of Troop troop 458 of The Knights of Columbus Council 1114. Troop 458 has been making a difference in our community for 43 years. Joshua Blanchard received the rank of Eagle and he has held several offices including Senior Patrol Leader, Assistant Senoir Patrol Leader, Order of the Arrow Respresntative, etc.
Also a member of the Thibodaux High School football team.
The fact that a boy is an Eagle Scout has always carried with it a special significance, not only in Scouting but also as he enters higher education, business or industry, and community service. The award is a performance-based achievement whose standards have been well-maintained over the years. Not every boy who joins a Boy Scout troop earns the Eagle Scout rank; only about 5 percent of all Boy Scouts do so. This represents more than 1.7 million Boy Scouts who have earned the rank since 1912. Nevertheless, the goals of Scouting—citizenship training, character development, and personal fitness—remain important for all Scouts, whether or not they attain the Eagle Scout rank.
The Bayou District is a geographic area of the Southeast Louisiana Council, Boy Scouts of America. The Council provides character education through high outdoor adventure to young men, and women, throughout its 13 metro parish area. The mission of the Boy Scouts is to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law. The Southeast Louisiana Council, Boy Scouts of America salutes Joshua Paul Blanchard for his great achievement and hard work!
