Dear Editor,

BISCO Supports educational program regarding storm surge during hurricanes.

BISCO staff and leaders recently had the opportunity to view a presentation made by the LSU AgCenter / Sea Grant concerning storm surge during hurricanes. We were amazed at the information gathered that shows the results had Hurricane Rita come on shore closer to home.

The detailed video, maps and information is something that everyone should have the opportunity to view. Once this presentation is through, you can know the elevation in your neighborhood and have an idea of what a similar hurricane could do to your home and community.

We are excited to share with you that the presenters have worked with the Lafourche and Terrebonne parish governments to have a showing on several Thursdays in August.

They are scheduled for tomorrow, Aug. 14, at 1 p.m., at the Lockport Branch of the Lafourche Parish Library, located at 518 Sixth St. in Lockport, and at 6:30 p.m. at the South Lafourche Branch, 16241 E. Main St. in Cut Off.

The program planned for Terrebonne parish will be held on Thursday, Aug. 21, at 6:30 p.m. at the Main Branch of the Terrebonne Parish Library located at 151 Civic Center Boulevard in Houma.

We have been advocating for this type of a program and are happy to share this information with the community.

We hope to see you all there.

We plan to have our Family Emergency Plans available to all who may like to have them.
