Dear Editor:

I appreciated your publisher’s editorial on June 16 titled “America Just Doesn’t Get It.”

John of California e-mailed his views about the disastrous oil spill in our Gulf of Mexico, Charlotte Randolph begging the president to drop the moratorium and that if Louisiana wants deepwater drilling once the oil industry has done all the safety checks. He ended by saying, “But please, Mr. President, keep California out of it.”

Keep California out of it?

Please e-mail John to tell him that California residents and those in many other states may become very involved when the cost of gasoline at the pump climbs to $5 or $6 per gallon.

Oh, and suggest to John that he visit the shores of our state along with the coasts of Alabama, Mississippi, Texas and Florida so he can see where the oil has gone.

On a final note, a question for the experts: Isn’t it more important to stop the oil from continually spewing into the Gulf of Mexico than to continually attempt to measure it?
