Dear Editor,

From the beginning of the race for the 3rd Congressional District, the deck has been stacked against Republican candidates running against Jeff Landry. The fact that the Republican Party fought to have this a “Closed Primary” told me the GOP had picked their candidate for party reasons.

Both the Democrats and Republican parties have disenfranchised the average American. Both parties have had their turn “in control,” both have been in power and not a thing has really changed in the areas in which the voters feel most need changing. They have rendered our individual votes less effective. They’re either so far left, we border on Socialism, or so far right, we border on Extremism; always voting “with the party.”

Partisan politics is destroying our democracy. Neither party represents my views anymore.

Watching and reading the lies and the dirty politics Jeff Landry has used from Day One, it sickens me to think he could end up representing the 3rd Congressional District. This is not who I want representing me. I want a candidate who doesn’t line up with the corporate agenda. I want a candidate who hears the voices of individual citizens. I want a candidate who, though we may not agree on all the issues, is honest enough and truly cares enough to listen and weigh both sides of an issue.

I urge all Republican voters who did not get out and vote in the Primary to study the records of both candidates; look for the truth and ignore the lies.

It has never been so important for Republican voters to rise from their easy chairs; shamefully, less than 25 percent voted in the Primary in many precincts. Vote where it will do the most good for the people. Make your vote count; our future depends on it.

Sybil Guidry,

Houma
