Dear Editor,

The lights are out throughout the parish, highways, streets, subdivisions, everywhere.

SLECA is doing a great job, and deserves thanks.

The issue is lights on 24 hours a day or blinking on and off 24/7, lights hidden by trees or in trees. You pick your problem.

Calls to Entergy are almost pointless unless you have an exact GPS location of the light pole.

I’ve taken pictures of dark streets or, in some cases, poles with a light out. I’d guess parish wide there are thousands of lights out. Along Savanne Road or Martin Luther King Boulevard, there are 5 here, or 10 there. It adds up like federal spending, $1 here, $1 there.

With hurricane season here, it is a must to cut the trees away from power lines and lights.

I believe we pay $5 per light per month, regardless of whether the light is on or broken.

I urge people to call the appropriate company to report outages. The phone number is on your light bill. It is safer, especially for those who travel or live on the road.

To the light companies, I ask you to please get the lights working again and avert a tragedy.

Edward Jackson,

Houma, La.
