Dear Editor:

In response to Lt. Col. John LeBlanc’s “Don’t Speed This Holiday, LHSC Director Advises” letter to the editor, with all due respect, I did “do the math” (as LeBlanc urged readers to do).

It doesn’t change your point, but let’s at least report it correctly. For a 100 mile trip, the time saved by going 80 mph instead of 70 mph is 10 minutes 43 seconds. It would have been 10 minutes if it had been an hour drive, not a 100 mile drive as reported.

Second, the letter doesn’t mention the fact that studies have shown more accidents are actually caused by slower drivers traveling in the left lane. When are our enforcement agencies going to begin cracking down on this behavior that is just as illegal as speeding and causes many of the speeding accidents (lane changes to get around the slower driver)?

Robert Hughes,

Houma, La.
