Kappa Alpha Psi Houma/Thibodaux has organized their 9th Annual Merry Kappa Christmas Festival.

Councilman John Navy, member of Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity and one of the event’s main organizers, expressed the importance of being able to give back to the community in challenging times.

“It’s kind of very special this year. To be able to provide some joy to the kids’ hearts during this pandemic and these challenges and changes that we have to experience in our community., and not just with the pandemic. We’ve been through several threats of hurricanes. 2020 has been a difficult time for a lot of us, so to be able to put such an event together and the community again to come to the call is amazing,” said Navy.

This year, the festival will be a drive-through toy and bike giveaway so as to adhere to COVID-19 safety guidelines.

“We’re going to do a drive-through process, similar to what they do with the food distribution. We ask everyone in the vehicles to have masks, we’re going to give masks out, we’re gonna give hand sanitizer, we have COVID-19 kits that we’re going to give out to the families too…We want it to be a very safe event,” said Navy.

Navy also spoke on Kappa Psi Alpha’s part in organizing the event, and how important charitable work in local communities is to them.

“By being in a fraternity, you have to also continue to do things in the community and display goodwill like we’re trying to do,” said Navy. “This is the largest toy and bike drive in the bayou region.”

The 9th Annual Merry Kappa Christmas Festival will take place in the Houma- Terrebonne Civic Center Parking lot from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM on Sat. Dec. 19 while supplies last.
