This holiday season Cannata’s is offering a new spin on their traditional RougaGooey King Cake, the Yule-Garoo Christmas Cake. The Yule-Garoo is a holiday take on a local favorite, which according to Cannata’s website is composed of locally grown Louisiana ingredients. With each purchase of a Yule-Garoo, Cannata’s will make a donation to the South Louisiana Wetlands Discovery Center.

The South Louisiana Wetlands Discovery Center’s mission, as stated on their website, is, “revolutionizing how we think, teach and learn about Louisiana’s disappearing coast.” They work closely with the local community to increase awareness of the importance of the preservation and restoration of Louisiana’s coastal wetlands.

Vince Cannata, Jr., president of Cannata Companies, said that since the RougaGooey King Cake was so popular during las year’s Mardi Gras season, that introducing a holiday variation was an easy next step.

“It’s unbelievable the amount of shipments we’ve gotten already, and of course they’re selling in stores as well. I think it’ll only grow as we get closer to Christmas and New Year’s,” Cannata said.

The Yule-Garoo comes in special festive packaging which is designed to educate people on the legend and significance of the Rougarou, as well as the importance of the work that the South Louisiana Wetlands Discovery Center does for the bayou area.

“The cake is a phenomenal cake, and on that basis alone it’s extremely popular. White chocolate, Louisiana pecans, Louisiana cane sugar, and the special Rougarou box that’s very Louisiana swamp-ish. It’s just a great gift to send across the country to somebody. Maybe a displaced relative, friend, family member or coworker who’s got some interest in Louisiana, or just to brag about Louisiana a little bit.”
