Next Saturday at 5:00 p.m., the organization Jule Strong will host Julie Gras, a “fun and funky” celebration that benefits beloved local and longtime Hyacinthian club member, Julie Braud—who was diagnosed with grade 4 glioblastoma brain tumor last December.

On Dec. 20, doctors attempted to remove the tumor from Braud but were unsuccessful because the detaching of the tumor would have left her paralyzed.

Now, Braud is undergoing seven weeks of chemotherapy and radiation in hopes of shrinking the tumor. “Jule is strong and faithful that she will beat this with such love and support of her family and friends that surround her,” reads a statement released by the organization.

No longer able to use her left arm and needing 24-hour assistance, proceeds from Julie Gras will go to Braud’s care needs.

“…Because she’s such a wonderful person, a giving person, fun-loving, big personality…and touched so many lives, people of the carnival krewes started discussing how they could help…So, it was just discussed to have a benefit. Once it was talked about, my husband [Kevin Larpenter] kind of took the bull by the horns and rolled with it,” says Lauren Larpenter, daughter of Julie.

At the benefit taking place in Aphrodite Hall, 212 Venture Blvd. in Houma, attendees will enjoy captivating music from New World Funk and Blue Eyed Soul Revue.

In addition to the live music, the tickets—priced at $100 per person—also give event-goers a steak dinner that includes steak, potato, corn, salad and roll.

Items will be live auctioned in between the bands’ sets.

“It’s going to be a good time to help a local fun-loving, generous woman,” Lauren Larpenter said.

Checks to benefit Braud with her recovery can be made out to Julie Braud Benefit—the account name at South Louisiana Bank. For More information on the event and the Jule Strong cause, visit the Facebook page (@julestrong2019) or call Kevin Larpenter at 985.856.6821.

“We definitely want people to know that we appreciate all the love, support, and prayers,” Kevin Larpenter said. “And any donations, we appreciate it all.”
