When the temperatures start to cool off, what better way to warm the body than some warm gumbo?

The South Louisiana Veteran Outreach invites you to attend the 2nd annual Help Our Heroes Gumbo Cook-Off at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 20, at the Houma Courthouse Square. SLVO is a non-profit organization whose mission is to assist local veterans in immediate need.

“The event aims to give awareness to the public on what veterans face after their service suffering from PTSD” says President of the South Louisiana Veteran Outreach Brok Torbert.

The family-friendly event will feature live music provided by Showdown, auctions, raffles, kid activities, drinks, and all you can eat gumbo! Due to Hurricane Ida’s severe impact on Terrebonne Parish, the team entry along with admission to the cookout will be FREE!

To keep the event a success and help facilitate the financial hardships of our areas veterans have faced, the outreach is seeking teams to compete, sponsors and donations, vendors!

In addition to free admission for the public, fees for the cooking teams participating in the gumbo competition will also be waived.

The Gumbo Cook-off was made possible by various sponsors including Blue Star Mothers of Louisiana, GATR Coolers, Southern Axe, and Chick-Fil-A.

Those who are interested in participating as a team, vendor, or sponsor, can direct message SLVO on Facebook or email at slveteranoutreach@gmail.com for team packets and sponsor information.
