As we continue with the Lenten season, abstaining from meat on Fridays starts to get a bit monotonous. Never fear! There are some amazing meat-free options at plenty of our local restaurants. Try one or more of these dishes sure to satisfy!

Shrimp and Crabmeat Pizza, West Main Pizza

This staple of Houma dining offers some of the most well-known pizza pies in the parish. If the last time you dined in was during your high school days, I am pleased to say nothing has changed… in a good way! The jukebox still stands and you can still watch your pizza being made. The pizzas are still unmatched when it comes to crispy crusts and toppings piled high! The shrimp and crabmeat is one of our all time favorites, Lent or not!

Grilled Shrimp and Veggies, Watergrill

Known for their stellar hamburgers and the original chicken and cheese, Watergrill steps up and runs with the big dogs when it comes to doing seafood the right way. With laid back vibes and a great outdoor patio area, your biggest challenge is deciding what to order! While the Lenten seafood platter special caught our eye, we were in the mood for something lighter. The grilled shrimp with veggies was the perfect meal. Cooked on a flat-top grill with secret spices and a hint of garlic, the shrimp are complemented with a grilled mixture of broccoli, cauliflower, squash and zucchini. Our other “don’t miss” menu item? The cornbread.  Oh my.

Shrimp Pad Thai, Song Phi Nong

If you’re looking for heaping portions of deliciousness, Song Phi Nong in Houma is the place for you. The majority of their dishes do not feature meat; you have the option to add the protein of your choice. While their Curry is the best in Houma, we are recommending a classic Thai dish: Shrimp Pad Thai. A word of caution: the spice levels are not for the faint of heart. Start low – you can always add more! (This dish is pictured above.)

Vegetarian Plate, Athenos Greek and Lebanese Cafe

With locations in Houma and Thibodaux, Athenos satisfies cravings for Greek food. The vegetarian plate is eggplant moussaka, spinach pie, feta salad and vegetable grape leaves. The moussaka is eggplant baked with bell peppers, onions, garlic, tomato sauce and spices.

Gulf Shrimp Salad, Big Mike’s BBQ Smokehouse

Big Mike’s BBQ Smokehouse is well-known for their amazing ribs, brisket, pork and more. But did you know they apply that same dedication to their seafood as well? The Gulf shrimp salad is mouth-watering and fresh. Giant Gulf shrimp, seasoned with a house rub and glazed with sweet heat sauce, are served on a bed of lettuce, tomatoes and hard boiled eggs. Not in the mood for shrimp? We also recommend the fried catfish on a bun.
