From its humble start in a small location on Menard Street in Thibodaux, Grafton Dermatology and Cosmetic Surgery has grown over its 19 years to have four locations (Thibodaux, Houma, Morgan City, and Raceland) and be one of the leading practices of dermatology and cosmetic surgery in the area.
“It feels great,” says Dr. Lee Grafton, who opened the practice on his birthday, “When we started out, we had two or three parking spaces and a little office that we rented. There were days where we only saw four or five people in a day. To go from that to four offices and busy all the time, feels good.”
Dr. Grafton was joined by Dr. Tamela Charbonnet in 2001, followed by Dr. Kristal Guidroz, who started in 2011. The three doctors, who each are married with three children, are from Ruston, New Orleans, and Raceland respectively, but Dr. Grafton says they work well together.
“We enjoy what we do and try to make it family oriented,” Dr. Grafton says.
The practice also employees two Physician Assistants, Monique Blanchard and Luke Paige. Ann Bourgeois, the Office Manager, has been with the practice since its inception 19 years ago.
The board certified doctors at this practice provide each of their patients with personalized care. The practice specializes in a variety of treatments. They assist in the healing of diseases of the skin, hair, and nails. They perform laser assisted Liposuction. They provide an assortment of cosmetic and aesthetic procedures. Dr. Grafton is certified in Mohs Surgery, a specialized skin cancer surgery.
“Basically what we do when we remove a skin cancer is check all the edges in the base to make sure we got it all, “It’s undoubtedly the best way to remove cancers, especially complicated ones that have recurred that somebody previously treated or have been treated unsuccessfully in the past. It’s the best way to get them out.”
Grafton Dermatology also specializes is Botox, dermal fillers, laser services, IPL, and hair and tattoo removal.
Over its nearly two-decade span, the practice has greatly impacted multiple communities. It has been able to successfully treat patients in the areas of Houma, Thibodaux, Morgan City, and Raceland, where there aren’t as many options for dermatology and cosmetic surgery as communities in bigger cities have.
“I think that we provide good skin care. In the past, there weren’t that many dermatologists in the area. In those smaller communities like Raceland and Morgan City, those people have had to travel to other areas in the past to get dermatology care,” Dr. Grafton says, “We are able to screen people for skin cancer and see people that don’t have to drive 20 or 30 miles to go see somebody, and we really enjoy those clinics.”
