A picturesque Acadian home situated at the end of a long driveway lined with crepe myrtles was exactly what Brent and Heidi Rhodes had in mind for their family of five. Situated on 3.5 acres with 5 bedrooms and 4 full baths, there was plenty of room for them and their children, Luke, Jordyn and Jacob, both inside and out.

While the interior originally had a dark color palette, Heidi was confident that a neutral color palette throughout would fit their style and make the rooms feel larger. Since purchasing the home in 2010, the couple has completed several large renovations with the kitchen being the first. “I like to cook, so updating the kitchen was my first priority,” says Heidi. The addition of granite countertops, a travertine backsplash, new lighting fixtures and paint on the both the walls and cabinets completely changed the space.

The largest undertaking was the addition of an outdoor living space and pool. Adding an extensive outdoor living area including an outdoor kitchen and fireplace as well as a pool and hot tub makes the space a family favorite.

“Choosing flag stone on the patio is one of my favorite additions. It reminds me old style Acadian homes and the outdoor patios that you see in New Orleans,” Heidi says. The addition of palm trees and landscaping along with wrought iron fencing completed the space.

Most recently, the renovation of the master suite was completed. Opting to gut the entire master bedroom and bathroom, the couple enlisted Travis Buquet Home Builders to complete their dream. “I wanted the bathroom to feel like a spa, so we used marble, tile, quartz, and glass,” Heidi explains. A glass shower surround encloses both the soaker bathtub and shower. In the bedroom, a marble accent wall and a large cedar beam make a statement while elegant linens and custom artwork add a personal touch.
