The countdown to the New Year is less than a week away and The Terrebonne Parish Library is providing a fun and safe way for parents to celebrate the New Year with their children. TPL  will host its Noon Year’s Eve Kids Party on Friday, December 31,  at the North Branch Library located at 4130 West Park Ave., from 11 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.

With the recent surge of COVID cases across the country, Terrebonne Parish Library Clerk Joan Durocher said the library wants to assure parents that the event will take Covid-19 precautions seriously while providing children with a ton of fun activities.

“Due to Covid, the event was held virtually last year, so this year we’re excited for it to return but we’ll still practice social distancing,” said Durocher. “It’s just for the kids to come out to have a good time celebrating the beginning of a new year.”

The celebration will include snacks, drinks, music, dancing, and a “Noon Year’s” count-down to noon instead of midnight. Following the count-down, TPL will hand out take-home crafts for children to enjoy during the remainder of winter break.

Durocher said The Noon Year’s Eve party usually takes place at the Main Branch location, however, due to the library remaining closed following Hurricane IDA, TPL decided to make a few changes. “The party is usually held at the Main Branch Library, but due to the location still being closed we had to make a location change, but they will be open soon,” said Durocher. “There’s also a resurge of Covid cases so we had to make a few short changes with Covid-restrictions in mind.”

“We’re excited to see everyone who comes out and celebrates the New Year,” Durocher remarked.
