On the picturesque and historical lawn of Orange Grove Plantation, gentlemen and ladies in exquisite hats will gather for Derby on the Bayou, presented by The Foundation for Terrebonne General Medical Center, the philanthropic extension of the medical center.

Derby on the Bayou will be held on May 5 from 2 – 6 p.m. This unique event will feature traditional mint juleps and margaritas in honor of Cinco de Mayo, along with the delicious cuisine of the grandest Kentucky social. Ladies are invited to decorate hats and participate in the Grandest Hat Contest. There will also be a bourbon tasting and lively music by Sista Slick and the Bruthas. The Kentucky Derby will be broadcast on the big screen as well.

“We are very excited about this new event, being it’s a celebration that’s not really being held in this area,” says board member Tiffany Tuberville Adams. “This unique event will bringing people together for a great cause.”

The Foundation for TGMC is hosting this fundraiser specifically to raise money to purchase a Wellness on Wheels Mobile Unit. The vehicle is similar to a large bus, with four private patient rooms. The vehicle can be used throughout the community for things such as blood drives for TGMC, or concussion testing through the Community Sports Institute at local high schools. The Mobile Unit can also be used in the event of a natural disaster, assisting with triage care.

“It’s important that people know what we are trying to raise money for,” explains Tiffany, “This wellness unit can help our entire community.”

Tickets are now on sale and can be purchased at derbyonthebayou.eventbrite.com or by calling 985-873-4603. For more information, you may email Paul Labat at paul.labat@tgmc.com.
