“After much consideration and consultation with local officials & krewes, we have decided to collectively cancel Mardi Gras parades parish-wide at this time,” announced Parish President Archie Chaisson.

Sheriff Craig Webre expressed his support saying, “As this decision shows, local officials remain committed to the health and safety of the citizens of Lafourche Parish. We appreciate the understanding and cooperation shown by our Carnival krewes and our community. We look forward to a time when we can return to a sense of normalcy, especially with our time-honored traditions we cherish so much.”

As of January 4th, 2021, limited doses of the COVID vaccine arrived to pharmacies in Thibodaux and Raceland, along with approximately one hundred pharmacies across the state. This round of vaccines will be by appointment only until supplies last. Additional doses are scheduled for Phase 1B, Tier 2 release thereafter. In the past three months, we have seen a rise in cases in our region to include hospitalizations and patients on ventilators. The parish’s confirmed total to date is 5,583 cases since the start of the pandemic with a positivity rate of 14.4%% with 94
new cases announced yesterday.

“The patience and support of our residents and business community when these difficult decisions have to be made does not go unnoticed. With the new year upon us, we must remain diligent in order to put this pandemic behind us as soon as possible to move forward, together,” said President Chaisson.
