An automobile accident in Thibodaux has caused a boil water advisory for a part of the city’s west side.

A section of water line along La. Highway 308 from Abby Road to Cottage Road was shut down yesterday as Lafourche Parish Water District workers repaired a main line leak. The water district has issued a precautionary boil advisory at 5:30 p.m. for any resident in the area who had water service interrupted during the repair.

According to Jared Allemand, chemist for Lafourche Parish Water District, the parish sent a water sample to the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals in Baton Rouge for analysis. Allemand said he hopes to get results back early tomorrow.

“That wouldn’t be until the earliest by tomorrow. We can’t be sure when it might be, because we don’t know when they put that batch of samples in to begin,” he said.

The boil water advisory is in effect until the samples are shown to be safe. According to Allemand, the advisory affects about 30 homes, and the parish contacted residents with automated phone calls and door-to-door visits to alert them to the situation.

Allemand said the leak sprung from an accident that the water district could not have planned for.

“Actually, it was an automobile accident where a truck ended up on top of a water line in a ditch,” he said.

Allemand said the water district has completed all repairs to the leak.•
