The Bayou Lafourche Home Sewage Assistance Program offers to pay to fix home sewage systems to homeowners in parts of Ascension, Assumption, and Lafourche Parishes along the Bayou Lafourche corridor.

The Barataria-Terrebonne Estuary Program (BTNEP) obtained a Gulf of Mexico Program grant to fix home sewage systems. Working alongside them, the South Central Planning and Development Commission (SCPDS) will contract and reimburse eligible residents. The Bayou Lafourche Fresh Water District (BLFWD) will visit residential sites to identify broken systems. This program can save residents up to $4,000 in costly sewage repairs and will protect families’ health, and the program also helps to protect the area’s drinking water.

The reimbursement program is simple:

• Once BLFWD identifies a broken system, they will refer those homeowners to SCPDC for financial assistance

• A licensed contractor will provide an estimate for the repair work and fix the system

• SCPDS will re-inspect to make sure all of the work was complete

• Reimbursements pay 100 percent of the first $1,000, then 50 percent up to $4,000 in costs incurred by the homeowners

The program is completely voluntary and it is a one-time offer. To inquire eligibility, or for more information, contact SCPDS at (985) 851-2900.
