The Terrebonne Parish Consolidated Government (TPCG) and the Terrebonne Parish School District, along with the cooperation of local agencies, are launching an initiative to “promote law enforcement presence and awareness within Terrebonne Parish schools,” TPCG announced today.

The Houma Police Department, Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office, Terrebonne Parish District Attorney’s Office, Louisiana State Police Troop C and the Terrebonne Parish Marshal’s Office are agencies participating in ‘Books & Badges.’

“Law enforcement officers from the above agencies will promote positive interactions amongst themselves, students, parents, teachers, and principals at schools during random hours of the day, as their individual schedules allow, in an effort to improve safety and deter criminal activity,” reads a news release on the program.

Officers will announce their presence to the school’s principal and staff, and they will be encouraged to have lunch with students in an attempt to build positive relations between students and law enforcement.

Terrebonne Parish President Gordon Dove and School District Superintendent Phillip Martin said they would like to thank all of the agencies participating in the program.
