The Bless Your Heart volunteer organization is asking for the help of the community to ensure children and families affected by Hurricane Ida will have a Merry Christmas. In partnership with HERE New Orleans, the organization is encouraging the community to participate in the Adopt a Kid program, which provides Christmas gifts to children in Lafourche Parish, Terrebonne Parish, New Orleans, and South Louisiana who were affected by Hurricane Ida.

“We were asked by a group of ladies by the name of HERE NOLA to participate in the program, and so far we’ve had a lot of people to make donations, and we’ve also had people to adopt a child and then ship the gifts or go and deliver them,” said Hillary Krum, Bless Your Heart Foundation.

Sponsors can visit here to view the list of Kids who are available for adoption. The list is updated every night. BYH is asking that each sponsor pick two alternates in the event your first pick has already been adopted

Interested in donating? Here is the list of steps to take:

  1. Pick the child/children you’d like to adopt

  2. BYH will email you their address(es) and  they’ll ask for confirmation that you received an email

  3. You can mail or deliver your kid(s) their gifts! USPS recommends mailing your gifts by 12/15

  4. Try to get your gifts in the mail sooner than the recommended date in the event there are delays.

  5. You feel warm and fluffy inside!

Krum said the program has received an outpour of support within the last month “We’re very blessed to have the funds, we still have about 100 kids or less that haven’t been adopted and we’re very thankful that Bless Your Heart has extra funds to pick up those children. If they aren’t adopted we’ll be able to purchase their gifts with those funds, and we’re very grateful.” Krum added, “We actually started with 2,018 children and we’re down to 100, so we’re just very thankful.”
