Need assistance in getting food for Thanksgiving? Cajun Navy Ground Force is partnering with Holy Family Catholic Church to host a Trunks-giving distributing delicious turkey, fixings and more to make an incredible Thanksgiving feast.

The event will be held at Holy Family Catholic Church located at 6641 Grand Caillou Rd on Saturday, Nov 20, at 10:00 a.m in Lot 6641. The Cajun Navy will be distributing non-perishable items including canned goods, dried goods, and hot meals. A dining area will be provided for families that would like to stay and enjoy their meal. In addition to the distribution, kids can enjoy an arts & craft station and receive face paintings!

Director of Ground Operations Michael Gaudet says the purpose of the event is to provide an acknowledgement of the atmosphere of the holiday. “One of the things we’re really looking forward to doing is providing an environment for families who won’t have a thanksgiving celebration due to whatever circumstances they may have. Although the event is before Thanksgiving day, it’ll give them an opportunity to sit down and share a meal.”

Gaudet says the event is not a replacement for Thanksgiving, but to provide a family-like atmosphere to the community after the impact of Hurricane IDA. “We take on the role of community caretakers right now – we can’t solve everyone’s problems, but we are trying to provide a bit of normalcy after what has been a very tumultuous past few months. Having an opportunity to share a meal together with the public is a blessing, and we’re hoping to fill as many bellies and put as many smiles on as many faces as we possibly can.”

Interested in donating? It isn’t too late! The Cajun Navy Ground Force is now accepting donations of chicken and sausage, canned goods, non-perishables, clam shells (styrofoam to-go containers), and utensils. Coordinators are asking those who donate to mention the items given as “Donations to Cajun Navy Ground Force Trunksgiving” event.
