This afternoon, U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA) addressed the Bayou Industrial Group in Thibodaux. Cassidy pledged his support for the Bayou Region’s recovery from Hurricane Ida. He also highlighted provisions in his Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, which was approved by Congress and will be signed into law, that will support this effort.
“Had a chance to speak to the Bayou Industrial Group regarding the bipartisan infrastructure bill,” said Dr. Cassidy. “This region will benefit as much or more than any coastal region in the nation. Good for the region, but more importantly, good for the people that live here.”
The Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, when signed into law, will provide more than $6 billion for Louisiana’s roads and highways and $371 million for its water revolving funds. There will also be money available for ports, waterways and flood mitigation projects, along with funds for carbon sequestration and clean hydrogen hubs that will support industry.
Cassidy was welcomed by Henri Boulet, the President of the Bayou Industrial Group and Vice President of the Louisiana Mid-Continent Oil and Gas Association.
“Bayou Industrial Group thanks Senator Cassidy for visiting with us today and updating us on important issues facing our country and our Bayou Region business community,” said BIG President Boulet. “The Infrastructure Bill, National Flood Insurance Program and federal policy on offshore oil and gas production all have significant impacts on local residents and business owners. It’s important for us to understand how federal leaders like Senator Cassidy are pushing for measures that benefit us and fighting those measures that threaten local residents, industry and community.”
Later, Senator Cassidy toured Ochsner St. Anne Hospital, to learn how they weathered Hurricane Ida and re-opened afterwards. He also met with hospital administrators from St. Anne, Ochsner St. Mary in Morgan City, and the Leonard J. Chabert Medical Center in Houma, to assess their long-term needs.
“Just spoke with folks at St. Anne’s Hospital. They stood up during Hurricane Ida, and now you can’t tell there’s damage,” said Dr. Cassidy. “It’s a real credit to the people who work at St. Anne’s Hospital, caring for people in the Bayou.”
Cassidy was joined by Mr. Tim Allen, CEO of Ochsner St. Anne Hospital.
“We sincerely appreciate Senator Cassidy visiting our healthcare heroes today at Ochsner St. Anne in Raceland,” said Allen. “During the tour we discussed the amazing teamwork in our three Ochsner Bayou Region facilities (Ochsner St. Anne, Leonard J Chabert Medical Center, Ochsner St. Mary) during and after the storm, including our employees at Ochsner St. Mary who supported the patient needs of the region and our own team members whose workplace had been disrupted by the storm. I want to thank Senator Cassidy for his leadership and support in the development and enactment of the recent disaster relief package, which includes funds for recovery from Hurricane Ida.”
