Heart disease is the number one indiscriminate killer in America.

According to the American Heart Association, cardiovascular disease deaths among women have outpaced men since 1984. About 6.6 of women alive today have coronary heart disease. And approximately 64 percent of women who died suddenly had no previous symptoms, the AHA reports.

Cardiovascular Institute of the South and The Foundation for TGMC are hosting a women’s “Love Your Heart” luncheon Feb. 7, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Medical Atrium Auditorium at Terrebonne General Medical Center, located at 8102 Main St.

Heart-healthy exhibitors, CIS cardiologists and a cooking demonstration by TGMC’s Chef Jacqueline Marsh are scheduled. Heart patients will also share their first-hand accounts.

Screenings for blood pressure, body fat and body mass index (BMI) and CPR demonstrations will also be available

Registration is required; space is limited.

Tickets for the luncheon are $10. Call 985-872-5980 or visiting www.cardio.com/loveyourheart.
